It’s important that you know about other agencies and organizations who offer assistance and advocate for the prevention of sexual assault, so we are including a few of those resources here for you to take a look at.

Online Resources and Agencies

weweAmerican Association of University Women (AAUW) – Since 1881, AAUW has been advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, philanthropy, education, and research

 

Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) – The nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, which operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline as well as the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense.

U.S. Department of Justice – In conjunction with the White House Task Force, a resourced called NotAlone.gov was created to address sexual violence on college campuses nationwide, and now that resource is supported by the Office on Violence Against Women.

343Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) – Since its inception in 1997, MCSR has led the call the redefine masculinity and male strength as part of preventing men’s violence against women.

 

wsesCenters for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – With the initiation of the VetoViolence Program, the CDC has helped to produce materials that specifically address teen dating violence and safety/prevention.

  • Offers crisis counseling, information, assistance with shelter, emotional support, advocacy, court assistance, and referrals to other agencies as needed. They can also assist with paperwork for domestic violence protective orders and criminal charges. They have groups for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. They also provide 24 hour crisis lines for interpersonal violence survivors and offers forensic medical exams for sexual assault survivors via the Solace Center.

WakeMed

  • Main line 919.350.8000
  • Offers 24 hour services for survivors who are needing medical attention and offers specific care for sexual assault survivors through the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) Center. They can provide forensic medical exams if a sexual assault survivor is considering pursuing legal options. They can also provide emergency contraception pills and test for sexually transmitted diseases and infections.
